Chocolate Dipped Oranges

I got this idea from a longtime family favorite treat. I remember seeing these at family functions for, well, as long as I can remember. Terry’s Chocolate Oranges are so amazing. They come wrapped in foil in the shape of an orange. You whack them lightly on a flat surface and then unwrap and voila! Little orange wedges. Now they aren’t actually chocolate covered oranges, just orange infused chocolate, but they might as well be. The orange flavor is so intense. It got me thinking about actually covering an orange in chocolate.

For this little treat, I chose mandarin oranges. They are small, bite-sized to be exact, and easy to peel apart. When you are working with chocolate, you want your fruit to be completely dry. Sometimes when you peel an orange the skin comes off and you are left with juice running out of the fruit. This makes it hard for the chocolate to stick and you might end up with clumpy chocolate. Yuck! So an easy to peel orange is the best choice here. 

I love these so much. You can leave them alone after dipping or decorate them with sprinkles like we did here. These are perfect little bite sized treats. You get the delicate, juicy orange and the sweet , firm chocolate all in one bite. Little pieces of heaven.
