Classic Lemon Drop Martini

classic lemon drop martini

My kids haven’t been napping for over a week so I haven’t had much time to sit and finish a post. I have a second now (while they are eating cookies and watching Shrek) so I thought, what better way to come back from a 10 day hiatus than with a delicious cocktail recipe!

I’ve recently been into learning how to make classic cocktails the way they were originally invented. The way they were intended to taste. I always thought Lemon Drop Martini’s were good but they weren’t my favorite and I recently found out why….because no one makes them right! When the Lemon Drop Martini was invented, it consisted of citrus vodka, kind of a new thing back in the day, fresh lemon juice and sugar. Nowadays if you order this in a bar, chances are, you’ll get a cocktail with simple syrup, sour mix or some other kind of mixer. It’s just not the same! The drink was meant to taste like the lemon drop candy. The sugar gives it that “grit” similar to when you eat the candy. It’s essential if you want to drink a Lemon Drop Martini the way it was intended. I’m working my way through a list of classic cocktails, so stay tuned for more like this!
